Haley Neil is the author of YA Contemporary ONCE MORE WITH CHUTZPAH (Bloomsbury / Fall 2021). She is a recent MFA grad from The New School, where she specialized in Writing for Children and Young Adults. Before this degree, she obtained her Masters in Education while working full time as a preschool teacher. She also studied at NYU, where she majored in English with a double minor in Art History and Creative Writing. She was selected for the Professional Edge Program, where she obtained an additional Publishing Certificate. She loves school, teaching, and going to school to learn about teaching.

Haley writes silly and heartfelt stories when she isn't walking her fluffball of a rescue pup or pretending she’s on a home baking show.

She is represented by Lauren Spieller at Triada US.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you write?

My current focus is Young Adult Literature, but I have a soft spot for all areas of writing for children!

Why do you write?

I write because I want to share the stories I could have used growing up. I write because I genuinely love it. I write for you, the reader.

I wrote from my own experiences concerning my religious/cultural background, sexuality, and anxiety.

Like Tally, I was raised in an interfaith household and have Israeli family.

Do you have any writing advice?

Having a community of writers is one of the most important things you can do. First of all, everyone needs critique partners. But, beyond that, they are the ones who will help you figure out all things writing. They can be pretty cool too.

Also, challenge yourself! This is the weirder piece of advice. I've had great personal success with timed writing and setting goals (from an hour a day to a chapter a day). Figure out what works best for you!

Anything else?
